- Use systematic random sampling through the entire region of interest.
- Preferentially oriented and thin sections are acceptable.
- To estimate the area of a homogeneous cross-section or the volume of a homogeneous region, use the Cavalieri/point-counting probe. To estimate the percentage by volume or area of a component, use the area fraction fractionator probe.
